Being Realistic About Our Time
by Kathleen E. Walls, Psy.D. (2015)
Many people become frustrated with time. It has come to my awareness that we often try to do more than the time we have. For instance, if one activity takes us 60 minutes to complete but we only have 30 minutes, we might start to feel frustrated, overwhelmed, angry, and other distressing feelings.
So what do we do to overcome this?
We need to become aware of how long it takes us to complete different projects and activities and make sure that we allot the appropriate amount of time to complete these tasks. Once we readjust our activities and place them in a realistic amount of time, we will notice a shift in our feelings as well as in our overall success rate in completing items on our “To Do List”.

Those who know me, know that I can be creative. They don’t have to think about it, they just know. This sense of “knowing” has been on my mind for the last several months…what is knowing? How do you know, what you know, when you know?
There are times when I am “led” to do or say something and I just know that it is the right time to do it. I feel it in my bones. I feel it in my gut…the “seat of my soul”. Sometimes, it is like I am watching myself as my body moves into action without thought…it just “knows” what to do. In the last couple of days, I was reminded of times when I have been driving in an unfamiliar city for the first time, yet I know where I am going. I don’t have a map or directions in hand…and no I don’t even have a GPS telling me which way to turn, yet I know. Yet internally my GPS (Guided Personally by Spirit) has taken over and I am on cruise control…just watching how this will all play out. Internally, I hear “turn left” so I do. Then “turn right”. My family and friends are so used to it, they just sit back and watch, knowing that we will end up right where we are supposed to be and right on time.
Now, don’t get it twisted…getting to this point of trusting the internal guidance took some time. I realized many years ago and am constantly reminded with myself and others that …knowing that you are supposed to do something and being moved to actually do or say it…now that is something else. It seems that there is a bridge between knowing and doing…and that bridge can have many names…Faith, Courage, Timing, Thinking, Planning, etc. What you do and how you cross that bridge to knowing and then from knowing to doing…is part of your life’s journey. Understanding how you know and when you move is part of understanding your personal truth. Hence, you will “cross that bridge” when you get to it.
As you continue on your G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Journey, I encourage you to move with “the knowing” and trust that as you are being led to have a positive impact in your life and the lives of others, you are being led to your G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Self.
It’s Part of the Journey
By: Dr. Kathleen E. Walls
The other day I found myself getting frustrated waiting for the changes that I know are bound to come. Similar to those last days of Winter, when Spring is sooooo close but it hasn’t “sprung”. I was feelings….anxious, tired of being patient, ready. I wanted the life changes that I see on the horizon to be right here, right now!
As I drove, I felt the tension building around my neck and shoulders. As the tension rose, I heard people asking me (in the not so distant past), “you don’t get stressed do you?” and could hear me saying “no”…but if they could see me now. The usually calm, cool, and knowing Dr. Walls, was having “a moment”…and no self-soothing was working. I tried singing, pulling for those statements and thoughts that have worked for myself and/or others in the past, considered exercising but nothing seemed to work…not even the drive was a distraction…Nothing was taking me through this moment…I seemed stuck. Actually, with the increasing gas prices, I started thinking about my finances and that increased my stress even more. At this point, I was ready pull over, suck my thumb, rub my ear, and take a nap with the hope that I would wake up in a better way. But then I thought about ruining my teeth, needed braces and then I was back to worrying about finances….It was a vicious cycle of stress.
Just as it seemed like my shoulders were raising up high enough to cover my ears, I heard that still small voice…That voice that comes from within and beyond the self….that voice that changed everything in an instant. It said “It’s part of the journey.” In that moment, I felt the tension dissipate, my shoulders relax, and my entire being understand the message.
After receiving the message, I began to think about my G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Soul Journey. I realized that a year ago I made a decision to not just “step out on faith” but to back dive into Faith. I have taken many leaps of faith in my life but this one was huge. This one required me to move on a “knowing” (see the Knowing post), which required me to trust myself, my spiritual development and maturity, and of course rely solely and completely on the Source…on God.
Since writing and publishing The G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Soul Journey, I have become more of a participant-observer in life for I am both a student and a teacher. Just like the older hair commercials that said “not only am I the president but also a client” (okay so am dating myself and showing my age), I too am on The G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Soul Journey. So when I heard “It’s part of the journey”, I got it!
The financial frustration, the waiting, the knowing, the patience….all of it….it is all part of the journey. In that moment, I remembered that just like when on a journey in the “physical plane”, you pass many familiar and unfamiliar sites and landmarks; you see, meet, and come into contact with various people; you will also see signs to inform you of where you are going and how much farther to your destination; and there are those times when you don’t know where you are and wondering if you are lost. Finally, you will get to the point when you are asking the infamous “are we there yet?”. The same is true of your spiritual journey. You will have familiar and unfamiliar experiences; come across people both known and unknown, new and old; and then there will be those times when you are not quite sure where you are aka wilderness experiences. Eventually, you will come to the end of your journey, at which point you will rest and celebrate your arrival, your accomplishment(s), your transformation. And as with all journeys, once this phase is complete, you will begin again…onto the next part of your personal journey.
As you continue on your G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Soul Journey , remember that you are actively participating in the journey and that your feelings and experiences will change along the way. So when you are in those “trying moments” just remember you are not alone, others are traveling and/or have traveled through this space before, “this too shall pass”, and that “It’s part of the journey“.

Almost 20 years ago, I was attending a workshop and heard someone say “I was ‘called’ to do…” Later that same day, I heard someone else say “I was ‘called’ to do…” Each time I heard the phrase “I was called”, I felt a rumbling inside of me deep within my belly, which I refer to as the seat of my soul. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I leaned to the row in front of me, excused myself and asked what did they mean by “I was called”. The people smiled and said “God is directing me to do something…I have a calling.” At that moment, I knew that I had a Soul Call. There had been something stirring in my Spirit for weeks…I had spoken about it and thought about it BUT I hadn’t done anything about it. I now knew it was time! I left the workshop, got in my car and made a call immediately to put the plan in motion. In true Spirit form, everything fell right into place!
In my book, The G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Soul Journey, I encourage people to be still, reflect, and reconnect/realign with their soul. When we are in alignment with our soul, we are more attuned to and recognize when we are receiving a Soul Call. In today’s terms, we would say that our Soul has its own special “ringtone”; however, we have to know the tune to know who is calling (See 1 Samuel 3).
When we receive a Soul Call, it is like an internal push or drive that has a positive impact in and on our lives AND the lives of others. As you are being Guided by the Spirit, and following the directions of your Soul Call, you will experience a sense of completion, satisfaction, happiness, and joy.
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi
As always, I encourage you to be still and listen to your soul. Learn the sound and language of your soul so you can be sure to answer when it calls. Remember when we answer our Soul Call, everything and everyone we need to accomplish the task/goal will be provided in a Divine way and in Divine time.
Shift from Jealousy to Inspiration
By: Dr. Kathleen E. Walls
February 12, 2015
I’ve often heard people say “I’m so jealous of…” or “I am envious of…” When I hear these comments, I usually engage the person in a conversation about the quality and essence of “what they are jealous or envious about.” I then say…
“jealously is misdirected inspiration…instead of being jealous be inspired.”
Generally, the person/people have taken notice of a characteristic, quality, or item that they would like to possess and exhibit. However, by spending time being jealous, they are not spending time working on and learning how to add and/or strengthen this characteristic in themselves. If it is an object that they want to possess, the same holds true, instead of focusing your energy on being jealous, focus your energy on developing a plan and working that plan so that you can have that item also.
The concept of jealously falls under the belief that we live in lack. Jealously strengthens the illusion that everyone wants the same thing the same way and there is a limited amount of it. When we change our thinking and understand that we are capable of having items, relationships, characteristics, qualities, etc. according to our Highest Divine Intention, then we understand that we have to shift our energy and our focus. So instead of “hating on someone” for exhibiting/possessing something that you want, ask them how they acquired the characteristic or item. As you shift from believing to knowing, you understand that you too can have and display that which once made you “jealous” without feeling like it has to be taken from the other person in order for you to have it.
Tip the Scales
By: Dr. Kathleen E. Walls
February 15, 2015
I once heard “it only takes 51% to tip the balance.” As I thought about this comment, I realized that so many times I found myself feeling frustrated or overwhelmed because I was trying to “get everyone on board/get 100%.” However, after I thought about this concept further, I found myself feeling relaxed and saying “it is doable.”
I then remembered another statement, the essence of which, stated “there is not more hate than love in this world, hate is just doing a better job.” I remember thinking “Wow! I have to make sure I am doing my part in sharing and spreading Love.” I found myself sitting with both concepts…tipping the balance with 51% and Love being more present in the world.
Both of these concepts resonated so deeply within me that they began to flow out of me every time I spoke. The message was so clear. How many times have we heard “majority rules” and concepts such as that? Numerous times is the answer. Now it was and is time to do our loving part for the world. How?
- Loving ourselves
- Loving others
- Using our Gifts and Talents
A friend once told me “when you use your talents, they are gifts to others.” Think about how many times you have done something “naturally” and someone else has been so thankful for what you are able to do effortlessly. Think about times when you have heard a song or looked at piece of artwork and it has expressed how you are feeling better than you could “say it yourself.” Hence, when we use our talents, we are infusing the world with our love and with our gifts. The positive vibrations that are emitted in that moment lift the frequency and help change the world for the better.
Just as every mile begins with one step, every contribution counts. I encourage you to do your part and remember …
“It only takes 51% to tip the balance. Add your Love, Gifts, and Talents to change the world”
Heaven on Earth
By: Dr. Kathleen E. Walls
February 15, 2015
In my song The G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Lullaby Meditation (Track 36), I encourage people to “Live as if heaven is right here on earth, know that you are priceless, know your worth…”
I have heard people talk about what they will have when they “get to Heaven” and/or what “Heaven” looks like. In these discussions, I often hear how people will “put off” living their Greatest life now and “save it” for later. Therefore, in my “Living Your G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Life” WORKshop, I encourage you to imagine what your life would look like if you had Heaven on Earth right now!
My thought is that if our daily life reflects “Heaven” then when we go to “Heaven” it will be better than we could ever think our image (Ephesians 3:20).
“I believe that our aspirations can become our reality and the foundation upon which we stand to aspire to greater heights.”
Take a look at the picture. Imagine that once you finish climbing the ladder you are in “Heaven”…”Your personal Heaven”.
- What do you see?
- What are you doing?
- Where are you living?
- Who are you with?
- If you stayed, what would your life look like? Be like?
You take notes, draw a picture, and/or take a snapshot, so that you can carry the image back down the ladder and begin to build your Heaven right here on Earth.
Now that you have the blueprint. Take the time to clarify, think about, and have continued focus on what you want…what you truly want…what your highest Divine self wants and then begin working toward it.
You can fill out the “Heaven on Earth form” and list what you would like for yourself as well as for others. This list may include increased health, better relationships, a car, new clothes, a vacation, world peace, happiness, equality, etc. Be sure to list your wants, hopes and desires. Once they are listed
- Prioritize the list
- Identify the steps needed to achieve Heaven on Earth
- Clarify your part/role in creating the shift
This will help clarify your focus on what you truly want. Sometimes people think a goal like world peace is beyond them but the reality is one peaceful act can have a ripple effect that touches multitudes and sets the example for others to follow. Remember, your actions don’t ever go unnoticed or without impact.
We each have a part in the health and functioning of the world. We must remember our power, individually and collectively. My daily prescription for the world is
“as you heal yourself, you help heal the world, so take some time for healing.”
Today as you focus on the positives that you want for yourself and others, be sure to join with like-minded individuals to increase and activate the power of the collective. Know that I am focusing on this for each of you……Love, Light, Peace, Health, Abundance, Success, Prosperity, Happiness, and Blessings. May You Live as if Heaven is on Earth!

Defensive or Defending
By: Dr. Kathleen E. Walls
February 16, 2015
Many times individuals are accused of being “defensive”. However, instead of receiving this self-description without review, take a moment and think about what you are actually defending. In a recent coaching session, as we explored the various reasons for the perceived “defensiveness”, it turned out the individual was actually defending themselves personally and their professional organization.
As I reflected more upon this idea of “defensive or defending”, I realized that it is important for individuals to become clear on what they are defending…what they feel needs to be protected. For one’s “armor” to rise up, there usually is an internal alarm that has sounded that something is “under attack”. It then becomes important to identify what that is. Could it be personal qualities like integrity, loyalty, or reputation coming under attack? Or could one be defending the mission, vision, and/or direction of a business?
So the next time someone says that you are being defensive or you tell someone that they are being defensive, ask yourself or them “what are they defending personally and/or professionally?” You might be surprised to find out what is actually being protected.
By Dr. Kathleen E. Walls (February 8, 2015)
As I began my day, I prayed and asked “what message do I need to share today?” In a matter of moments I found myself writing about Love. The messages came swiftly and clearly…”Love is”, “Be in Love”, “Speak in Love”. It was very clear that I needed to send Love into the world as well as remind and encourage others to do the same.
As I wrote, the imagery became more vivid. For instance,
•”Love is a cloak that is used to cover oneself. You will feel it. Others will see it. Love is a cloak that will protect you. Unlike clothing that you put on and take off, Love is your permanent ‘dressing’. It is your fanciest outfit, your best pair of shoes. Love is what people see like beautiful colors. Love is what people feel like a pleasing and/or soothing texture. Love is…
•”Imagine immersing yourself in love like you would do in water so that you are covered with it and it is dripping from you. When you interact with others they will see Love (just like they would see that you are wet), and if you touch them they would be impacted (similar to them becoming wet after being in contact with you).”
Many years ago, a friend told me to ‘speak the truth with love’. I contemplated what that meant and how to do it. I realized that it caused me to slow down and think before I speak as well as feel before I speak. By “feeling” before I spoke, I was able to tap into my true intentions for saying what I was saying. As I was honest with myself, I was able to feel what others would receive from my words. What I found myself doing was waiting at times to speak the “truth” until it could come from a place of love. By doing this, I noticed that I felt more centered, more certain, and more at peace when I spoke. I also noticed that people were more receptive to what I had to say and less conflicts occurred about what had been shared. Speaking the truth with love taught me to wait for and pray for Love to lead the way in all things.
May you be infused with Divine Love that permeates you and overflows so that you can share it with the world.
